Welcome to the website of the seventh annual Conference on European space policy.

“EU SPACE POLICY CONFRONTED WITH THE RISING DEMAND FOR SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS”

Brussels – 27 & 28 January 2015 - European Commission - Charlemagne Building

As Europe emerges from a serious financial, economic fiscal and social crisis, stronger European industrial competitiveness is vital as a driver for reviving economic growth and job creation. The space manufacturing and service sectors continued to grow in the recession and are perfectly placed to make a strong contribution to one of the main aims assigned to the Union's work over the coming years by the European Council in its recent « Strategic Agenda for the Union in times of change »: invest and prepare our economies for the future.

In this perspective, at least three crucial aspects of the work of the EU should be reinforced and developed:

  • a broad-ranging and active space industrial policy;
  • a dynamic and assertive trade policy;
  • an active policy for the development of European space applications et services.

With this set of challenges in mind, the Conference will offer to stakeholders from the space sector, industry, users and European and national decision-makers, the opportunity:

  • to debate the current and future implementation of EU space programmes and the setting up of a launcher policy ensuring independent access to space for Europe;
  • to illustrate the contributions of space infrastructures and services to the delivery of  effective EU joint action in the world by examining two practical cases: transports activities and the fight against climate change;
  • to debate the new challenges facing the satellite telecommunications sector;
  • to discuss the increasing role of space infrastructure and services in meeting the new security and defence challenges and threats facing Europe, including energy security.
